Have you all wondered why catwalk and editorial model hair looks full of body and sexy movement? Well here’s why: heated rollers! No they are not just for your granny, they are how you achieve the Hollywood look.

Heated rollers are an essential part of my kit at very photo shoot I have done. If you have hair past your shoulders and want the current look of sassy curl, bend and bounce, then these will do the trick. You don’t have to spend lots money either! The round brush is the best tool for your stylist but not good for home hair styling. It’s just too hard and will fatigue your arms.

Here’s how it goes. Turn on the rollers and at this stage do your make up. When you’ve finished your make up the rollers will be nice and hot (you will need a tail comb now). The trick is to take big sections and lightly back comb the roots to get a little root lift – then spray each section with a light holder and twist the hair around the roller, then pinning it in place. NO little rollers as these will end up really curly … unless you want that look, then OK.

The rule is, the bigger the sections the more bend and body, smaller sections give more curl and bounce. You can roll them in either direction for different looks and can use the rollers in particular parts of the hair for the look you want.

Finally then, with your make up on and your rollers in, sit down for 10 minutes and have a glass wine – you deserve it!

After at least 10 minutes, take the rollers out and loosely shake your curls. Twist and tease the curls around the face for the Hollywood look. Lightly spray with hairspray to make sure your hair stays looking gorgeous.
